Why did we write Stringtastic?

Updated: Oct 27, 2021

We can't begin to tell you how much we enjoyed working on Stringtastic Beginners. Through the many ups and downs in the writing process we have always kept in mind why we wanted to write Stringtastic.

Here was our original wish list:

  • A book we could use in individual and small group lessons, as well as whole class teaching and beginner string orchestra settings.

  • Something that violin, viola, cello and double bass students could learn and play together.

  • All instrument books are in the keys and layout for ease of use.

  • Pieces that were accessible to all but were musically rewarding and fun to play.

  • A flexible way of teaching.

  • Pieces we could extent and make longer.

We have written 43 pieces that work together. The first 20 open string pieces have duet parts which can be played using the D major finger pattern. These duet parts are ideal for consolidation/extension work, making a total of 63 pieces to play.
